Misappropriated is a response to the extensive sand mining and mining leases across Minjerribah, created from images of sand and sound recordings. Each of the shapes cut into the images represent one of the boundaries of a mining lease, many of which are still operating. Some areas where sand mining has occurred are irreversibly scarred. The adequacy of remediation plans for former sand mining areas is a heavily contested issue ahead of the return of the mining areas to the Quandamooka people.
